Aquatics FAQ

Where can I find the most up-to-date aquatic policies?

Indoor pool policies can be found here. Outdoor pool policies can be found here.

What is the swim test policy?

Those 13 and younger are required to successfully pass a swim test prior to use of the lap pool.

If a lifeguard observes a swimmer of any age displaying poor swimming ability, it is at the pool staff’s discretion to require a swim test prior to continued use of areas of the lap pool.

Swim Test Criteria:

Part 1 – SWIM: Swimmers must enter the water in the shallow end, and swim two lengths of the pool – 50 yards. To pass this part, the swimmer must continuously be using the front crawl or breaststroke, with adequate breath control. Swimming underwater, “doggie paddling”, or backstroke are not permitted. The swimmer may not stop, touch the wall/lane line, or floor until this part of the test is complete.

Part 2 – JUMP & TREAD: Swimmers must jump into the deep end (fully submerging head), resurface, and effectively tread water using arms and legs for 45 seconds. The swimmers must keep their face and mouth out of the water for the entire duration of treading.

Part 3 – EXIT INDEPENDENTLY: Swimmers must reorientate themselves to an exit point (ladder or side of pool) and exit independently without the help of a parent, care provider, or the testing staff member.

Once a swim test is successfully passed, the swimmer will be given a “deep-water” wristband. After this, the swimmer may receive their “deep-water” wrist band upon entry to the facility as early as the next day.

Swimming abilities can change due to several factors. Any swimmer may be required to re-test on any given day if a Lifeguard or Supervisor deems it necessary for safety reasons. Children may only attempt the test once per day and are welcome to try again on their next daily visit if they are unsuccessful in their attempt.

Fitness FAQ

Why are there no TVs on the fitness floors?

When designing the facility, our team studied new community centers around the state of Ohio and beyond and found a trend: a focus on intentionally reducing sensory overload within workout spaces. Deliberately stepping back from traditional TV content emphasizes a calm workout environment for all, as many find TV screens to be distracting or even stressful. We encourage those looking for TV content to use their own devices, screens, and personal headphones.
